BackRoads Marathon Program Summer 2025
Boost Your Endurance, Speed, and Performance this Summer!
The BackRoads Marathon Program is the perfect option for those looking to improve their speed at the marathon distance or run a strong first marathon. The program will be marathon specific and often includes both experienced marathon runners and runners new to the marathon. Program participants will be connected with others who run similar paces to encourage training together. This program is tailored for individuals who can currently run 16km on a “long” run at the time of registration. If you have not run a half marathon yet, we recommend training for a half marathon and running the distance before running a full marathon. Please consider checking out our 10k+ program, which can prepare you to run your first half marathon!
We are excited to be welcoming Deanna Kelly as the group instructor for this summers program! Deanna is a mom of two and passionate runner. She has completed several half marathons, two marathons and four ultramarathons. Deanna has her UESCA ultra running coaching certificate and is excited to help each runner achieve their goals!
Our marathon program has a structure that fosters a strong sense of community and support among runners who have a wide range of experience and abilities. At BackRoads, we’re proud to offer an inclusive running environment.
Program Details:

Start Date: Monday, July 7th, 6:00pm at BackRoads
- End Date: Saturday October 25th

Focus: Improving your marathon speed or running your first marathon.
- Emphasis connecting runners of similar paces.
What’s Included:

16-Week Training Program designed by store owner Aaron Hendrikx:
2-week base period, 14-week race-specific training (marathon) -
Possible marathon race targets in Ontario include: TCS Toronto Half Marathon October 19th, Hamilton Road to Hope November 2nd, Niagara Falls October 26th.

Other Race options: Jordan's Run The Runway 5km September 19th, Howling Ghost Trail Races September 27th, Springbank Road Races.

Weekly structured group sessions with each run having a purpose and a focus on having fun.

Weekly Group Workouts:

Mondays: 6:00 PM - Intervals/Repeats/Hills/Tempo

Wednesday: 6:00 PM - Easy social runs OR Threshold/Marathon Pace (5k-10k)

Saturdays: 7:00 AM - Long runs (varied distances) (early 7am start for cooler temperatures.)

NEW optional morning 6am group run (no instructor present, day of the week to be confirmed)
